🌾 Today’s Poem ~ Start Where You Stand

Start Where You Stand

Berton Braley

Start where you stand and never mind the past,
    The past won’t help you in beginning new,
  If you have left it all behind at last
    Why, that’s enough, you’re done with it, you’re through;
  This is another chapter in the book,
    This is another race that you have planned,
  Don’t give the vanished days a backward look,
    Start where you stand.

  The world won’t care about your old defeats
    If you can start anew and win success,
  The future is your time, and time is fleet
    And there is much of work and strain and stress;
  Forget the buried woes and dead despairs,
    Here is a brand new trial right at hand,
  The future is for him who does and dares,
    Start where you stand.

  Old failures will not halt, old triumphs aid,
    To-day’s the thing, to-morrow soon will be;
  Get in the fight and face it unafraid,
    And leave the past to ancient history;
  What has been, has been; yesterday is dead
    And by it you are neither blessed nor banned,
  Take courage, man, be brave and drive ahead,
    Start where you stand.

✒️ Writers’ Wisdom ~ It Doesn’t All Happen at Once

I began wanting to create a detective who really turned the tables on that image of women, to know that you could have a sex life and not be a bad person. You could have a sex life and still solve your own problems. It was eight years from when I started having the fantasy that I was going to create such a detective to when I actually sat down and came up with V. I. Warshawski. It was a long, slow journey to come to a writing voice and do that character. ~ Sara Paretsky

🤗 Feel Good Hack ~ It Might Just Be Possible!

Life is Without Limits

We don’t have to live lives limited by fear, anger, ill health, or self-imposed barriers to success. A life beyond limits begins with a few simple thoughts or affirmations of possibility, ones that say “I can. I can take the energy of my good work and thoughts and use them to live a simple yet extraordinary life beyond any limits I have felt before.” We see the “impossible” take place over and over in the natural world, but we often take it for granted. For example, a leaf transforms the invisible energy of the sun into nourishment. Go outside and witness the “impossible.” Then use these simple yet profound events happening every moment of the day as a model for your own ability to transform your life.

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ Music Does Soothe

Listen to Music to Calm the Mind

Listening to music literally calms the activity in your brain. Fewer neurons fire in your amygdala (the part of your brain that responds to fear), which may lead to fewer signals sent to other parts of your brain. Music is a good thing to try if you’re distracted by pain. Listen closely, not just as background. The more you notice, the less you’ll dwell on your other thoughts.

COVID-19 Is a Bummer – It Can’t Stop Good Things From Happening

COVID-19 Is a Bummer – It Can’t Stop Good Things From Happening

Here are a few of the good things I witnessed or experienced today:

  • I visited a daughter who recently moved to Texas. We had a great time – We have the Italian gene and love to hug. But, we practiced social distancing. Grateful for the chance to connect.
  • A warm southerly breeze fills my home with fresh air and the sounds of birds. Grateful.
  • Today’s one of those feel good days and I want to shout out a verse from a favorite Psalm, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad (Ps 118: 24).
  • We’re another day closer to a solution. It’s going to happen. Stay strong, wash your hands, and keep smiling.

The little things are priceless treasures to me. They brighten my day. I hope your day is filled to overflowing with the little things that make life worth living.

Grateful for all the above.

If you’d like to share the good things you’ve witnessed on my blog, Email me (ray.brese@gmail.com) a short list (1 to 5 things.  I’ll post and attribute them to you in the way you choose to be acknowledged (e.g., anonymous, name, Word Press blog (etc.).

🍎 Today’s Health ~ A Way to Quiet the Mind

Watch Fish Swim

People with home aquariums say they feel calmer, more relaxed, and less stressed when they gaze at their fish, and science backs it up. It isn’t just the water, although that alone helps. A study using a tank hundreds of times larger found that the more types of marine life that were added, the happier people got. Heart rates and blood pressures dropped, too.

I don’t have an aquarium; however, I’ve found a great YouTube video I watch each night for 15 minutes and deep breathe as a meditation exercise. I don’t have to feed the fish and I get the benefits. LOL. Here’s the link: The Best 4K Aquarium for Relaxation

Today’s Smile 😃

Bill: “What happened?”

Joe: “The odds were against me.”
