Thank you for your comments, Terveen. I have a personal experience with King’s advice. I always encouraged my doctoral students to get a copy of Strunk & White’s Elements of Style. It’s a classic on how to write. The book, written over a century ago was laid out in a creative and innovative way. Segue to at time when my wife and I were riding through the Kansas Flint Hills. Out of nowhere the thought came to me, ‘why not write a book on how to write dissertations based on the Strunk & White model.’ I presented my idea to a publisher and the book was published and still is doing well today. It also led to several other published books about writing dissertations. Depok Chopra called the space I found myself in during the ride through the Flint Hills, ‘the gap.’ You never know when the flash of insight will hit. Here’s hoping you have many similar flashes.
