🌾 Today’s Poem ~ The Look

The Look

Sara Teasdale

Strephon kissed me in the spring,
      Robin in the fall,
But Colin only looked at me
      And never kissed at all.

Strephon's kiss was lost in jest,
      Robin's lost in play,
But the kiss in Colin's eyes
      Haunts me night and day.

👊 Today’s Power Thought ~ You’ll Make it to the Mountaintop

If they’re telling you what you plan to do is impossible, prove them wrong. If they’re telling you you’re foolish, prove them wrong. If they’re busy pointing out the obstacles you’ll face, use your time planning how to overcome each of the obstacles. Don’t listen to fools. Don’t listen to the fraidy cats, don’t listen to those who are busy painting the blue sky black. You know the sun is shining. You know you’ll make it to the mountaintop.

🤗 A Better Life ~ Good Relationships are Hard Work and Worth the Effort

Good relationships are hard work and worthy of the effort. Good relationships are organic, they constantly evolve. They are never static. Each partner to a good relationship continuously learns about himself or herself and the other. It’s a lot like peeling an onion a layer at a time, There’s always another layer. The more we trust each other in a relationship, the more we are willing to reveal a hidden layer. Those in good relationships know they are in a love dance and the music guiding the dance is a love song.

👍 Today’s Good Word ~ Persevere

Persevere – Def: to try to do or continue doing something in a determined way, despite having problems.

There are many qualities that go into what makes someone successful. The ability to persevere is at or near the top of these qualities. What do you do when the going gets tough? Do you look for something else to do, make excuses, or do you suck it up and keep on pushing forward? Those who keep pushing forward may not see the light at the end of the tunnel; however, they have an intuitive feeling if they stay with it a bit longer, it will work out. This holds true for the times we experience life’s darkest storms. When all seems lost and hopeless, those who persevere take it an hour and a time and keep taking it at an hour at time until they persevere through the storm. Never quit. Never give up, persevere.

💡 Something to Think About

Do you live in a ghost town? I see lots of ghost towns. Folks stay locked inside their homes or apartments. Neighbors don’t know each other. Oh, they’ll wave and say hi, but they don’t know each other’s name. It happens in large apartment buildings too. Ride down the elevator and people stare at smart phones, the numbers passing on the elevator without saying a word to each other. When we connect with each other, we build a sense of community. We discover our neighbors are much like us. Our world becomes a whole lot friendlier.

🍎 Today’s Health Tip ~ When & What You Eat Can Help Protect Your Skin from Sun Damage

Regularly Eating Breakfast Turns on Your Skin Clock

Diet is an often-overlooked part of how we adapt to our external environments throughout the seasons. The first meal of the day can prep and protect your healthy summer glow.

Why eating these ingredients in the daytime is important

Turns out we have a “skin clock,” says Joseph S. Takahashi, PhD, chairman of neuroscience at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center’s Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute. In his 2017 studyTrusted Source, Takahashi and his team found that an enzyme that repairs UV-damaged skin has a daily cycle of production that can be altered by eating food at unusual times.

“It is likely that if you have a normal eating schedule, then you will be better protected from UV during the daytime. If you have an abnormal eating schedule, that could cause a harmful shift in your skin clock,” he said in a press release.

So rather than a midnight snack, try incorporating these skin-loving foods into your smoothies to add a little extra sun protection into your diet:

        1. Blueberries
        2. Watermelon
        3. Nuts and seeds
        4. Carrots and leafy greens
        5. Green tea
        6. Cauliflower
