Today’s Good Word ~ Who, What, Where, When, and Why?

Who, what, where, when, and why. They are often referred to as the 5 W’s. These words hold the key to gaining information or solving problems. They are the starting place to our investigation into the unknown. If we use the words wisely, we frame questions that gather the information we desire and lead to further discoveries. The words can also be misused, for example, “Why did you do that?” In this case our statement doesn’t seek information as much as it accuses another. Instead, one could ask, “Why did this happen?” There is a big difference. The former leads to defensiveness, the latter leads to a cooperative search for truth.
