Today’s Poem ~ Just Smile

Just Smile

Sri Chinmoy

Don’t struggle;
You are bound to fail.
Just smile a sweet smile.
Your life-boat
Is bound to sail,
Without fail.
Don’t cry;
You are bound to fail.
Just smile a soulful smile.
Your life-boat
Is bound to sail,
Without fail.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Should You Nap?

An Afternoon Nap’s Benefits

Napping isn’t just for babies. Studies show that an afternoon nap is great for adults, too. There’s no need to feel lazy for indulging in daytime sleep. A short nap in the mid-afternoon can boost memory, improve job performance, lift your mood, make you more alert, and ease stress. Cozy up to these nap benefits. . . . nap as short as 10 minutes can be beneficial, but keep your nap to 30 minutes or less so you don’t wake up feeling more tired.

    1. It can improve your memory – Studies have shown that sleep plays an important role in storing memories. A nap can help you remember things learned earlier in the day as much as a full night’s sleep. Napping works to keep you from forgetting things like motor skills, sense perception, and verbal recall, too.
    2. It may help in connecting the dots – Not only can napping help you remember things you’ve just learned, but it could help your brain draw connections between things you find out. In one study, nappers found it easier to put together information they got earlier in the day.
    3. It may lift your mood – If you’re feeling down, try taking a nap to lift your spirits. Napping, or even just resting for an hour without falling asleep, can brighten your outlook. Experts say relaxation that comes from lying down and resting is a mood booster, whether you fall asleep or not.

Think About It ~ Learning the Lessons

Think about the toughest time you’ve experienced then ask yourself, ‘What can I learn from this experience?’ There are profound lessons to discover in each of our tough experiences. We learn these lessons because we survived the tough experience. We may have been wounded. We may always carry the scars from the experience. The scars remind us of our strength and resilience. The scars remind us of what we’ve learned. The scars remind us how we were able to transform something negative and painful into something positive and beneficial.

Today’s Positive Thought ~ Change Your Mind, Change Your Life

“If you can change your mind, you can change your life (William James).” I’ve seen this happen time and again. I’ve seen folks who always thought about reasons why they can’t, then, one day, they changed how they thought about life and began thinking about why they could. They moved out of the breakdown lane and started moving on down the road. It’s our thinking that holds us back, when we change our thinking we discover a world of possibilities that we previously didn’t know existed.

What if I Empowered Myself Through My Words?

What if I empowered myself by repeating ‘I am strong, confident, and resilient’ each time I rose from sitting for a week? I’m sure you’d discover that you are strong, confident and resilient. When we continuously repeat an affirming mantra we are retraining our minds to automatically switch into a new thinking mode. It is a thinking mode that empowers us. It is a thinking mode that slams the door on doubts and naysayers. Try it for a week. It can’t hurt and it might make all the difference in  your life.

Today’s Joke

Joe: “My girlfriend told me she could trust me to keep a secret.”

Pete: “Why did she say that?”

Joe: “She said, It doesn’t matter what she says to me sinceI never listen to her.”

Today’s Inspiration ~ Clear Eyes See Opportunities

“If you believe it will work out , you’ll see opportunities. If you believe it won’t you will see obstacles.”

~ Wayne Dyer
