“I chose life over death for myself and my friends… I believe it is in our nature to explore, to reach out into the unknown.
The only true failure would be not to explore at all.

On Children
Kahlil Gibran
And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children.
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
NOTE: We all get stuck and at times feel trapped by our circumstances. Don’t give in to those feelings. Keep trying, never quit, there is a way out. It may not be readily apparent; if you keep searching for it, you’ll discover it. It’s there waiting for you. The light will appear and you’ll be walking in the sunshine.
Discover something new. As humans, we are hard-wired to experience joy when experiencing novelty. Developing a new pursuit can help us refocus our energy. Give yourself permission to take a few moments of pleasure, especially when you are feeling low. You can try NPR’s Joy Generator for a taste.
NOTE: It takes energy to get up off the sofa and do something new. The familiar often traps us to new experiences. I recall the first time I stood on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I was overwhelmed with a sense of wonder and joy. Seek out new experiences, you deserve moments of joy and the wonderful feelings that accompany it.
Joe: “I met my girlfriend while I was on jury duty.”
Pete: “You did?”
Joe: “Yah. Thank goodness she was acquitted.”
