Poem of the Day ~ The Songster

The Songster

Emily Pauline Johnson

Music, music with throb and swing,
   Of a plaintive note, and long;
’Tis a note no human throat could sing,
No harp with its dulcet golden string,—
Nor lute, nor lyre with liquid ring,
Is sweet as the robin’s song.

He sings for the love of the season
When the days grow warm and long,
For the beautiful God-sent reason
That his breast was born for song.

Calling, calling so fresh and clear,
   Through the song-sweet days of May;
Warbling there, and whistling here,
He swells his voice on the drinking ear,
On the great, wide, pulsing atmosphere
’Till his music drowns the day.

He sings for love of the season
When the days grow warm and long,
For the beautiful God-sent reason
That his breast was born for song.

Joke of the Day

Joe: “I came from work and there was a note on the table, ‘I can’t take it anymore, I’ve gone for a walk.'”

Pete: “Is your girlfriend okay?”

Joe: “She’s okay. The note was from my dog.”

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ It’s All Now & It’s All Good

“Carpe diem! Rejoice while you are alive; enjoy the day; live life to the fullest; make the most of what you have. It is later than you think.” – Horace

NOTE: Why wait for tomorrow. Now is the moment. Today is the day. Where we are at the moment is exactly where we should be. Celebrate the moment. Here’s to the moment. Here’s to the circumstances. Here’s to all the wonderful gifts and opportunities surrounding us.

Health Tip of the Day ~ Should You Drink Diet Soda?

Pros & Cons of Drinking Diet Soda

Pros of drinking diet soda:

      1. Low in calories: Diet soda contains fewer calories compared to regular soda, which is beneficial for those trying to lose weight or maintain their weight.
      2. May help with weight loss: Studies have shown that replacing regular soda with diet soda can result in weight loss, as it reduces the overall calorie intake.
      3. May be a good alternative for people with diabetes: Since diet soda does not contain sugar, it can be a good option for people with diabetes who need to watch their sugar intake.

Cons of drinking diet soda:

      1. Artificial sweeteners: Diet soda contains artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose, which have been linked to health problems like headaches, nausea, and even cancer in some studies.
      2. May increase cravings for sweet foods: Some studies suggest that drinking diet soda may increase the desire for sweet foods, which could lead to overeating and weight gain.
      3. May be bad for bone health: Some research has linked drinking diet soda with lower bone density and increased risk of fractures, possibly due to the phosphoric acid in the soda.
      4. Can contribute to dental problems: The acidic nature of soda can contribute to tooth decay and erosion, which can lead to dental problems over time.

Overall, while diet soda may be a good option for those trying to reduce their calorie intake, it’s important to be aware of the potential health risks associated with consuming artificial sweeteners and acidic beverages. As with any food or beverage, moderation is key.

Inspiring Quote of the Day ~ You’re at the Starting Line

“Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go. They merely determine where you start.

~ Nido Qubein

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Moving Toward Tomorrow

Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer.

~Denis Waitley

NOTE: It’s good to understand what went wrong and learn how to prevent it from happening again. It’s even better to shake the dust off our feet and move forward leaving the past behind. For the confident, the future will always be better than the past.
