Health Tip of the Day ~ 5 Reasons to Give Up Refined Sugar

Knock the Sugar Off and Get Great Health Benefits

      1. Sugar is high in calories: Refined sugar is high in calories and has no nutritional value. Consuming large amounts of refined sugar can lead to weight gain and obesity, which can increase the risk of developing several health problems, such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancer.
      2. Sugar can cause insulin resistance: Refined sugar causes a rapid spike in blood sugar levels, which can cause the body to produce insulin to bring the levels back down. Over time, this can lead to insulin resistance, a condition in which the body becomes less sensitive to insulin and is less able to regulate blood sugar levels.
      3. Sugar can increase inflammation: Consuming high amounts of refined sugar has been shown to increase inflammation in the body, which can contribute to the development of several chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease.
      4. Sugar can cause tooth decay: Refined sugar is a major contributor to tooth decay and gum disease. When sugar is consumed, the bacteria in the mouth produce acid, which can erode tooth enamel and cause cavities.
      5. Sugar can lead to addiction: Refined sugar can be addictive, as it activates the same reward centers in the brain as drugs of abuse. This can lead to cravings and a cycle of overconsumption, which can be difficult to break.

Feeling Good Tip of the Day ~ Moving On

“Look for the lesson in mistakesNo one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Most of us make many of them.  . . .  By learning to look for the lesson and taking heed of it, we’ll be less likely to see our actions as failures and more likely to view them as opportunities to grow.” Source

NOTE: If you’re a perfectionist making mistakes is a tough slog. It’s better to lighten up, dust yourself off, give thanks for the lessons it taught, and move on. Mistakes happen, give it your best to learn from them.

Positive Thought of the Day ~ Becoming Stronger & More Resilient

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” Maya Angelou

NOTE: Life challenges to become stronger, more resilient, and more adaptable. When we rise over and over again, we gain strength, confidence, resilience, and the ability to endure the toughest of times. The base foundation for gaining strength and resilience is the meaning in our life. When we have meaning in our life we can accomplish most any goal and conquer most every challenge. What meaning in your life drives you today?

Poem of the Day ~ My Home

My Home

Luis G. Dato

Up by a leaping stream,
And cradled ’neath the hills,
The hallowed moments seem
Eternities of thrills.

The river runs its course
Half round my little nest,
Where birds are never hoarse
Singing in play and rest.

O’er the roof the cadenas creep,
Soft grasses clothe the lawn,
Which with the twilight weep
And pray for a new dawn.

At morn the butterflies
Are early on the wing,
And when the evening dies,
I hear the late bird sing.

There joy no sorrows mar,
Its cup is empty never,
Wherein griefs, falling, are
Lost in the depths forever.
