“I do the very best I know how – the very best I can; and I mean to keep on doing so until the end.” Abraham Lincoln
When we give our best it may not turn out the way we want it to turn out; it will, however, turn our for the best. Don’t doubt, don’t look back, give the present moment your best and do it again for each of the following moments and your life will be filled with purpose.
“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can (Arthur Ashe).
The starting line is not equal. Wherever you are on the starting line focus on the finish line. Ignore everything and everyone else. Don’t look back or to the side. Give it your best effort, don’t quit.
“It’s better to have tried and failed than to live life wondering what would’ve happened if I had tried (Alfred Lord Tennyson).” So many dreams never come true because we refuse to try. We refuse to take the risk. We blow the risk out of proposition and make an excuse not to try. The irony to not try is that by trying we discover hidden forces within and outside of us coming to our aid and we succeed beyond our dreams.
I like going to the gym. I like the feel of sweat and tired muscles after a workout. I know if I stop exercising my muscles will begin to atrophy. It’s the same way with our minds. If we stop using them, our minds lose their capacity to problem solve, engage in meaningful dialogues, or seek creative outlets. Everything worthwhile takes continuous effort. It all starts with a first step and followed by another step.
“I’ve got a theory that if you give 100% all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.”
I know that the earth exists,
It is none of my business why;
I cannot find out what it’s all about,
I would but waste time to try.
My life is a brief, brief thing,
I am here for a little space,
And while I stay I would like, if I may,
To brighten and better the place.
The trouble, I think, with us all
Is the lack of a high conceit.
If each man thought he was sent to this spot
To make it a bit more sweet,
How soon we could gladden the world,
How easily right all wrong,
If nobody shirked, and each one worked
To help his fellows along!
Cease wondering why you came –
Stop looking for faults and flaws;
Rise up to-day in your pride and say,
‘I am part of the First Great Cause!
However full the world,
There is room for an earnest man.
It had need of me, or I would not be –
I am here to strengthen the plan.’
What if I didn’t listen to those who told me I couldn’t do it. People we trust, we love, and we count on often place their fears on to us. They’re well-intentioned, but they view our life through their prism. If we look at what they think is impossible or foolish to attempt and examine the potential good that can come from our effort, we’ll have all the motivation we need to attempt what others view as impossible. Don’t let anyone talk you out of trying. It’s your life.
