Poem for Today ~ The Divine Image

The Divine Image

William Blake

To Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love,
All pray in their distress:
And to these virtues of delight
Return their thankfulness.

For Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love,
Is God, our father dear:
And Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love,
Is Man, his child and care.

For Mercy has a human heart,
Pity, a human face:
And Love, the human form divine,
And Peace, the human dress.

Then every man of every clime,
That prays in his distress,
Prays to the human form divine,
Love, Mercy, Pity, Peace.

And all must love the human form,
In heathen, Turk, or Jew.
Where Mercy, Love, & Pity dwell,
There God is dwelling too.

Feel Good Tip of the Day ~ Let it Slide

When I was a young guy in the army, I did something I shouldn’t have done. A sergeant caught me. He could have got me into trouble, instead, he chewed me out (did he ever). I was grateful he let it slide. I never made the mistake again. I learned a valuable lesson, We all need a break now and then. Extending a merciful hand often pays much greater dividends than a slap.

Today’s Poem ~ A Song

A Song
Laurence Binyon
For Mercy, Courage, Kindness, Mirth,
There is no measure upon earth.
Nay, they wither, root and stem,
If an end be set to them.

Overbrim and overflow,
If you own heart you would know;
For the spirit born to bless
Lives but in its own excess

Beggarly Heart ~ Tagore

Beggarly Heart

Tagore

When the heart is hard and parched up,
come upon me with a shower of mercy.

When grace is lost from life,
come with a burst of song.

When tumultuous work raises its din on all sides shutting me out from
beyond, come to me, my lord of silence, with thy peace and rest.

When my beggarly heart sits crouched, shut up in a corner,
break open the door, my king, and come with the ceremony of a king.

When desire blinds the mind with delusion and dust, O thou holy one,
thou wakeful, come with thy light and thy thunder.

Today’s Quote by Shakespeare on Mercy

From the Merchant of Venice

The quality of mercy is not strained;
It droppeth, as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath: it is twice blessed;
It blesseth him that gives, and him that takes,

Act iv. Sc. 1.
