Life is good when we have a friend who loves us unconditionally.
A friend got a new puppy three weeks ago. Two days after getting the puppy he emailed me and told me he was sure he made a mistake. The puppy was too much work. Now, three weeks he got the puppy he sent me an updated email; it seems that the puppy and he have become BF’s. Dogs have a way of getting into our heart and refusing to leave. They’ll love us unconditionally, teach us how to enjoy life, and live in the moment.
The most important person to seek as a friend is oneself. When I can except myself with all my faults, with all the things I don’t like about myself, and look in the mirror and say I love you. I have made a friend and offered that friend unconditional love.
When you like someone, you like them in spite of their faults. When you love someone, you love them with their faults. Hermann Hesse
There are different wells within your heart.
Some fill with each good rain,
Others are far too deep for that.
In one well
You have just a few precious cups of water,
That “love” is literally something of yourself,
It can grow as slow as a diamond
If it is lost.
Your love
Should never be offered to the mouth of a
Stranger,
Only to someone
Who has the valor and daring
To cut pieces of their soul off with a knife
Then weave them into a blanket
To protect you.
There are different wells within us.
Some fill with each good rain,
Others are far, far too deep
For that.
“All things and all people … call on us with small or loud voices. They want us to listen. They want us to understand their intrinsic claims, their justice of being. We can give it to them only through the love that listens.” Paul Tillich
What if each of us were able to listen to another without interruption?
What if each of us were able to understand each another without letting our innate biases color our understanding?
What if each of us felt accepted unconditionally as we are at the present moment?
I speak for myself. I’d like that kind of world. How about you?
I was neurotic for years. I was anxious and depressed and selfish. Everyone kept telling me to change. I resented them and I agreed with them, and I wanted to change, but simply couldn’t, no matter how hard I tried. Then one day someone said to me, Don’t change. I love you just as you are. Those words were music to my ears: Don’t change, Don’t change. Don’t change . . . I love you as you are. I relaxed. I came alive. And suddenly I changed!
Love is like energy that travels one-way.
Like cosmic light that enters the black hole, love unconditionally appears then disappears.
Grab hold of the energy and
hold on for the ride.
Hold on to love like cosmic light,
and enjoy the unconditional ride
for a day or for years.
from A SURRENDER TO THE MOON
The beginning of love is the will to let those we love be perfectly themselves, the resolution not to twist them to fit our own image. ~ Thomas Merton
