Poem for Today ~ Walk and Touch Peace

Walk and Touch Peace

Thich Nhat Hahn

Walk and touch peace every moment.
Walk and touch happiness every moment.
Each step brings a fresh breeze.
Each step makes a flower bloom.
Kiss the Earth with your feet.
Bring the Earth your love and happiness.
The Earth will be safe
when we feel safe in ourselves.

Health Tip of the Day ~ Slow it Down

5 Reasons to Eat More Slowly

    1. Better Digestion: Eating slowly allows your digestive system to process food more efficiently, reducing the risk of indigestion, heartburn, and other digestive issues. When you eat quickly, you tend to swallow air along with your food, which can cause discomfort and bloating.
    2. Improved Satiety: Eating slowly gives your brain time to register that you’re full, which can help you avoid overeating and promote weight loss. When you eat quickly, you’re more likely to eat past the point of fullness, which can lead to unwanted weight gain.
    3. Enjoyment of Food: Eating slowly allows you to savor the flavors and textures of your food, making your meal more enjoyable. You’ll also be more mindful of the experience of eating, which can help you develop a healthier relationship with food.
    4. Better Hydration: Eating slowly helps you drink more water, which is important for staying hydrated and maintaining optimal bodily functions. When you eat quickly, you tend to drink less water, which can lead to dehydration.
    5. Reduced Stress: Eating slowly can help you reduce stress and anxiety by promoting relaxation and mindfulness. When you eat quickly, you’re more likely to feel rushed and stressed, which can negatively impact your mental and emotional well-being.

Poem of the Day ~ The Dream Keeper

The Dream Keeper

Langston Hughes

Bring me all of your dreams,
You dreamers.
Bring me all of your
Heart melodies
That I may wrap them
In a blue cloud-cloth
Away from the too rough fingers
Of the world.

Today’s Health Tip ~ Is Swimming In Chlorine Treated Pools Safe?

You May Want to Think Twice About Jumping in a Chlorine Treated Pool

The real danger [in swimming in chlorine treated swimming pools is not the pool chemicals themselves, but how they mix with other chemicals that people bring to the water. Urine, along with body care products like shampoos, lotions and conditioners, interacts with chlorine to form volatile organic compounds that can be unhealthy to breathe.

“After the chlorine reacts, you create a whole spectrum of potentially dangerous molecules,” said Andrew Chadeayne, a former college swimmer and a patent lawyer with a doctorate in chemistry. “The ones we know about are irritating to eyes and the respiratory system.” . . . There’s no conclusive evidence that exposure to these compounds might lead to serious problems, such as cancer, but “the other thing to really worry about is a lot of them have never been studied at all.”

Something to Think About

Hurricanes, tornadoes, drought, and glaciers melting, we’re told that is all signs of global warming.Global warming impacts all of us.It’s mind boggling for the average person. The average person is concerned with paying rent or the mortgage, feeding a family in times of high inflation, and wondering whether he or she can walk safely to work.  When politicians decide to work together and collaborate for the welfare of all, some of the problems may be solved. Failure to collaborate may be a larger problem than the issues listed in this post. C’mon politicians, it’s time to work together.
